Types Of Lightning Arresters

We install the electric equipment at our home and offices, without giving a second thought to the likely risk factors that come along with them. The modern electrical systems, that we so commonly use today, have the tendency to be susceptible to voltage surges. This may cause serious life threatening consequences. Considering this, the Lightning Arresters play a very significant role as a perfect answer to lessen the risks to the zero level.

The Lightning Arresters are the effective devices to stop the damage caused by the lightning to the electronic power systems. The Lightning Arresters competently direct the current into the grounds by catching the surges in the electrical wires and diverting them to the grounding cables. There are various types of Lightning Arresters available in the markets. Some of them are:

Horn Gap Arresters

The Horn Gap Arresters are named so for their two horn-shaped rods made of metal. The rods of the Horn Gap Arresters are placed on the porcelain insulators. The rods have to be arranged around a particular air gap, the space between the rods grows as they rise from the air gap. The horn is attached to two wires. One is connected to the electrical wire and the other one is connected to the ground to draw off the excessive electricity to the ground.

Multi-Gap Arresters

The Multi-Gap Arresters are made of a certain series of metal cylinders. The cylinders are separated by air gaps and are insulated from each other as well. Only the first cylinder has to be attached to the electrical wire while the other cylinders are connected to the ground to bring down the current.

Valve-Type Arresters

The types of Valve-Type Arresters are extensively used in comparatively high-powered electric systems. The Valve-Type Arresters mainly comprise of two main components, i.e. a series of non-linear resistor discs and a series of spark gaps. The Valve-Type Arresters function when the excessive electricity voltage results as spark gaps to touch, and the non-linear resistor disks transmit the voltage into the ground.

Pellet-Type Arresters

The Pellet-Type Arresters are not used that much in comparison to the other Lightning Arresters. The Pellet-Type Arresters are made from glass tubes, which are filled with lead pellets. These pellets are made from lead peroxide that is coated with lead oxide. The lead peroxide is a strong conductor that gives the current a space to flow.

If you are planning to buy the Lightning Arresters, going for the online business portals will be a best idea. There are various Lightning Arresters Manufacturers and Suppliers enlisted on the popular websites, which offer the technically advanced and cost-effective series of Lightning Arresters.
