Providing proper Earthing to equipment is very vital so as to protect the equipment from damage as well as the human operating it. What an Earthing achieves is that it conducts any fault current to the earth, without causing any damage to anything or anybody. An Earthing prevents the current flow level in the equipment from rising above the safe level. Any electrical equipment or appliance which has exposed metal parts should be provided with proper Earthing.


Properties Of Ideal Earthing Materials:
Since Earthing is of such importance to ensure safety of equipment and appliances, it goes without say that Earthing systems should be made of good quality materials to provide maximum efficiency and safety. Qualities that make for a good Earthing material include resistance to corrosion, ability to conduct excess current flow into the earth continuously and minimum electrical resistance. The typically used Earthing materials are stainless steel, copper bonded steel and solid copper. The reason for this being that these materials are relatively cheap, strong and resistant to corrosion, which makes them idea for use as Earthing materials. Some examples of commonly used Earthing materials types are G.I. Pipe Electrodes, Earthing Strips, Lightning Arrestors and Earth Electrodes.

Some basic factors which need to considered while buying an Earthing System are dimensional accuracy, strength and durability. Also it should be verified whether the Earthing system you are buying is in compliance with the prescribed safety standards. The installation of an Earthing system is equally important to ensure the safety of the humans as well as the appliance.
