A Power Distribution Panel – What is it?
In today’s world, nothing is possible without electricity. There is hardly any home or place where electricity is not used or needed. There are many appliances in and around the house which need electricity to operate and function. A Power Distribution Panel ensures that the incoming flow of electrical supply is distributed according to the need to various electrical circuits. A Power Distribution Panel is known by many different names such as service panels, fuse box, load centre/center, panel board, fuse board and power breakers.

Components Of A Power Distribution Panel:
In a typical Power Distribution Panel there is a column of breaker switches and each switch corresponds to the electric supply to a particular room in a house. Then there is a main circuit breaker switch, to which if the electrical supply is broken, there is a subsequent breakdown of electric supply to the corresponding units.

Benefits Of A Power Distribution Panel:
Since each breaker panel switch corresponds to a particular room, in case of electrical overload in that section, the circuit breaker immediately shuts down and cuts off supply to that area, without any problem in the electric supply to the rest of the house. Thus, the problem is isolated to one section of the whole house and the others continue to function effectively. Also through the use of these breakers, one can manually shut down electric supply to a particular section in case of any repair work or installment. This is a very important feature and ensures safety of the people in the house.

Power Distribution Panel Types:
Some commonly used Power Distribution Panel types are –

  • Portable Power Distribution Panel – Such Power Distribution Panel comes in handy in emergency or for use at functions like marriages or parties when extra electric supply is needed.
  • Single Pole Power Distribution Panel – These are commonly seen around a household and used for home appliances
  • Double Pole Power Distribution Panel – This is also type of Pole Power Distribution Panel in common use today.
  • Ground Fault Power Distribution Panel – This Panel is installed in high risk areas as it promptly shuts down supply within less than a second of detecting a fault.

A Power Distribution Panel is an important component which has vital role to play in ensuring human safety.
